Breakfast at Cappy’s Cafe on Huntington Beach

“In life it’s more important what you say no to – than what you say yes to” – Joey Torklidson Do you have a minute? Great. But perhaps the answer you should be saying is no… In both professional and personal life, a common denominator among many top performers is simply their ability to say “no”. Whether it’s to that meeting you don’t really have space for in your diary, or having that extra slice of pizza you don’t need, the majority of us will struggle to say no. This week on the Grind, Joey and Jason are joined by Founder and CEO of Hergenrother Enterprises, Adam Hergenrother. In less than ten years, Adam built his rapidly growing company through his commitment to thinking big and never giving up. Fearless and purposeful; unconventional and systematic, Adam sets a seemingly impossible goal then quickly gets to work on closing the gap to achieve it: no limits, no regrets. The trio spend the morning in Newport Beach’s Cappy’s Cafe, eating breakfast under the palms, discussing the definition of value and the correlation with productivity and happiness in life. When we picture the idea of perfect happiness, one might imagine an afternoon spent sipping a drink while lounging back on a lawn chair; soaking up a satisfying retirement from years of hard work and graft. However, as the boys discuss on today’s episode, does that lack of productivity inevitably lead us to dissatisfaction. Do we need to be working towards something at all times to feel self value? As Adam says: “a rubber band is useless unless stretched”. Whether it is the fault of our modern day society, or simply the human condition, it is in our nature to constantly seek the grind. However it is our duty to recognise this and do whatever we can possible to simply be the best version of ourselves, teach others, and in turn develop self-value that way.
